Some speed reviews now, as I'm so behind!
Dewey is the titular cat who was found one morning as a tiny scared and half frozen kitten who had been shoved into a library drop-box overnight. Nursed back to health by Vicki Myron and her staff, Dewey became a permanent addition to the library, bringing his own unique personality to the team. After endearing himself to the locals, Dewey soon brought in visitors from much further afield, ending up as one of many talented and special cats on a Japanese television documentary.
Myron's biography of Dewey is very entertaining and enjoyable, though she does completely anthropomorphise the cat, his personality and emotions, occasionally with overly cheesy gusto. Although straying well beyond the boundaries of sentimentality, it is still a heartfelt and utterly endearing book of a cat who truly touched a lot of lives. Packed with classic comedy moments, Dewey is a sweet enough tale that it may have brought a tear to the eye!
One for any cat lovers out there, and perhaps also those who enjoy reading about the impact a library can have on a community.

This book made me teary-eyed! A must-read for all cat lovers. :)
I live in Japan and saw the documentary. It brought tears to my eyes. I'll try to read the book eventually.
I have this but I'm putting off reading it because I think we all know how books about cute, real life cats end.
My big problem with this book was that I was not all that interested in the authors life... Sometimes she went into too much detail and I felt it took away from the story.
this sounds like a sweet read.

Melody - Absolutely. Can't imagine that I would have enjoyed it as much if I wasn't already a cat lover.
kanmuri - I can imagine the documentary would have been lovely!
Jodie - Ah yes...fraid so.
Kailana - Definitely one for cat lovers who can relate to all the wonderful anecdotes about the cats and the library. The author's personal story was my least favourite part of the book too.
Naida - Sweet is a good word to describe it. Its not classic literature or a eye opening biography, just a sweet tale about a very special cat.
