Adventures and obsessions..

Well that was indeed a ridiculously short job. Two days in fact, though a very intense and somewhat fun two days. And with a well-deserved five-day holiday in Brisbane afterwards, visiting some friends! We walked, shopped, had lots of high tea, visited a glow-worm cave, went to the beach, watched the US election and celebrated with an Obamarama party! It was lovely to get the chance to see (once again!) everything I love about Australia, especially the ocean, the hills and fabulous wildlife. And now I am back, and it looks like I won’t be going offshore again before March, which leaves me lots of reading and blogging time! Speaking of which...I started reading Rebecca, but have made the mistake of also starting to reread The Black Jewels Trilogy, which I now cannot put down! It’s a real effort coming into the office, when all I want to do is sit at home and read.

I have also discovered a newfound obsession with vampires. I don’t mean obsessed in a dressing up in dark sexy clothing, roaming the streets at night and biting people obsessed (though I am sure there is nothing wrong with that…), but over the past few months, I have really started to enjoy reading vampire fiction and watching vampire television! Considering I’m pushing 30, I’m a bit late onto the vampire bandwagon, but I’m sure it will make Rhinoa happy (she’s been trying to get me to read Anne Rice and such for ages!). I recently started watching the television series Blood Ties, which isn’t fabulous, but I am enjoying it more than anything else on the box right now. So, on Saturday I broke my book buying ban (bad mariel) and bought the first Charlaine Harris novel, Dead After Dark, and am looking forward to the film adaptation of Twilight, which should be hitting our screens in a few weeks. I’ve had sudden interests like these in the past, with animal stories as a child, travel and nature writing as a teenager, and now my longer lasting enjoyment of fantasy fiction.

Where will this newfound obsession take me? Well I’ll certainly be diverted from the reading I was hoping to do! So my question to you is…who else is a big fan of the more bitey fantasy fiction, and have you gone through a similar obsession, however brief?

I’m also starting to feel the wintry Christmas/Yule spirit. My housemate and I have already selected an afternoon to take off work so that we can get a tree for the house! I did some shopping Saturday afternoon after it had gotten dark, and I love the feeling of walking around town all wrapped up warm, watching the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping…and its not even December yet! Late night shopping tomorrow...

First off, your pictures are incredible! What a beautiful place. I went through a vampire phase too...in fact I think I'm still in it :p But it started when I was around 17 and read interview with the vampire. Then I became obsessed with everything Anne Rice! My favorite is The Witching Hour. Enjoy Rebecca! It's a great one!

Gorgeous pictures! And I'm glad you had such a great time!

Rebecca is wonderful, but I know very well how the Black Jewels trilogy makes you put everything else aside! It made me put Nation by Terry Pratchett aside, and that's a feat.

I was obsessed with vampires in my teens as well, and I still like vampire stories a lot now. It's never too late! I hope you do read some Anne Rice, and I look forward to reading your reviews if you do!

Thanks both of you! I've finished the Black Jewels now, so back onto Rebecca.

Beautiful pictures! I'd never read any vampire fiction before last year so I'm even later to the party than you! And now I'm quite addicted to the Twilight series and Colleen Gleason's series. Once those are done, I think I'm going to have to find more vampires to read about.

Lovely pictures! Thanks for sharing them. It's never too late to jump on the vampire bandwagon - I've been there for the last (now that's a bit embarrassing) 30 years or so). I'll be looking forward to your reviews as you discover all the fun books out there!
